Lights of Liberty

PECO Energy Liberty Center

The 6,000 square foot PECO Liberty Center is divided into five themed areas, beginning with the Lights of Liberty Shop, a striking 1,000 square foot gift shop that blends historically themed products with whimsical souvenirs in a museum shop setting. The multi-media wall shows a continuous four minute video. As you watch, you learn of the five-year undertaking that made Lights of Liberty possible. You see those who dedicated their time and talent to bring the story to life, including former Mayor Ed Rendell, the Philadelphia Orchestra, Walter Cronkite, Charlton Heston, Ossie Davis, Whoopi Goldberg, Claire Bloom, Frank Langella and other luminaries. You learn that our birth as a nation was conceived in a period of turbulence and trial and great triumph, and that ordinary people from 13 colonies in difficult times were able to come together and truly become Americans.

As you visually navigate the center, you notice a ticket counter with pricing options for individuals and families. Once your ticket is purchased you are directed to the headset station to receive your 3-D sound headset for the Show. You are ready to experience the Lights of Liberty Show, which begins shortly at the stage in the Liberty Center. A colonial character begins our show by introducing our audience to our story and setting the revolutionary tone. So begins your journey back into history as you are guided through Independence National Historical Park and the special story of America's independence.
